We made it...but NONE of our luggage did!!!!

We left our home on Thursday @ 6:30 AM....and 33 hours later, we arrived in St. Petersburg, completed wiped out! We had no sleep on the planes and a whirlwind of problems with our flights. We made it to JFK o.k., but then sat on the runway for about an hour and then got stuck in a holding pattern in London due to heavy traffic. We missed our flight to St. Petersburg and were given the option of either laying over in London until next morning or RUNNING for Gate 26 and hoping that our stand-by status would get us on the next plane to Frankfurt, Germany. Well, we made it on that flight but then got delayed again on the runway and then stuck in a nasty windstorm, which put us into another holding pattern over Frankfurt (which was quite a ride, let me tell you!!!). After landing in Frankfurt, we headed towards the B Terminal (opposite end of airport....trams, trams and more trams, then walking for what seems like forever) and once there, had a bite to eat before boarding for St. Petersburg. I'll give you one guess what happened with that flight.....that's right, DELAYED!!!! We finally made it to St. Pete and arrived at 12:30 AM, made it through the friendly Russian customs, and proceeded on to baggage claim. One by one, we watched as suitcases of every color and shape rolled past us. Then, without warning, the belt shut-off and the lights were dimmed. Not one piece of our luggage made it.
So, back to customs, filled out paperwork, then on to Lost and Found. Oh yes, I did I mention that we are literally walking zombies???? Long story short, we met our driver out front, made it to our hotel in record time, headed to the concierge to hire a driver to take us shopping for clothes the next morning (we were informed that we had to visit the baby house that next day for offical reasons....), then off to our room where we promptly washed our socks and underwear in the sink, then used the hotel-provided hair dryer to dry them. We got to sleep at 2:30ish, then up again at 7:00. Shopping didn't work out for me, but Darren got a new shirt. Off to baby house in clothese I've been wearing far too long (sweat pants, white t-shirt, a sweatshirt tha didn't match my pants, navy blue flight socks provided by British Air, and my sneakers.....). Jaxon has grown!!!! He's walking so much better, he's taller, he recognized us and warmed up right away and he's so much more interactive!!! We had a blast with him! Poor thing just had another hair cut though, and this time they really buzzed him! He's got a cold again, too. Most the kids in the baby house do.
So, today we move on to sight seeing, more time with Jax and shopping. We're heading out to the Shamrock for a good luck pint before our big day tomorrow, so wish us luck and keep us in your prayers. I'll update things tomorrow....God-willing, we'll be parents tomorrow afteroon!!!! We love you all!

Lord this trip has started out exciting, this should make the rest of the trip anticlimactic based on the first 33 hours! Thank you for Darren and
Shawn finally arriving in St. Pete's and we have gratitude that Jaxon remembered his parents and their visit allowed them to start their time as the family they are to become. Lord tomorrow is Darren and Shawn’s day in court – provide them with a judge who is gracious Father, have them look upon Darren and Shawn ready and willing to make them Jaxon’s parents without any hesitation. Bless Darren and Shawn’s translator Lord, have her state the answers concisely leaving that Judge satisfied and so no additional questions are asked, and no additional answers needed. Lord open the way for Jaxon to finally leave the Baby House with his parents on Monday afternoon, expedite court proceedings and paperwork so his court paperwork is finished and his Russian Passport is issued.
Lord make Jaxon healthy, he is sick and needs to be well for his journey back to the U.S, Father continue his desire for Shawn and Darren as his parents let this reflect in his interactions with them Father these first days in Russia have been overloaded with stress, bring Darren and Shawn comfort and peace, give them reassurance of all the good times that are to come. Lord I ask that their luggage be found today and brought to their hotel so they have everything they need for the remainder of their trip. Father we are so grateful for everything you allow in our lives even the chaos that started this trip, because we know that you are in control, you have great love for us as your children, and this has always been your plan. In Jesus name, Amen.

Shawn -

Here is another one of my favorite worship songs:

Breathe
Words and Music: Marie Barnett

This is the air I breathe
This is the air I breathe
Your holy presence living in me
This is my daily bread
This is my daily bread
Your very word spoken to me
And I,
I’m desperate for You
And I,
I’m lost without You

Every moment you feel lost or that things are out of control read this song.

Father as each day is completed in this journey to Jaxon and he is one day closer to being home forever with Darren and Shawn – I thank you that this journey started 18 months ago, and even when there are times when plans did not happen according to our timeframe you knew that Jaxon would come home. I pray for the health for Darren and Shawn, remove the stress from their bodies so that they can stay healthy, and if Jaxon is still fighting his cold, I ask for Jaxon's to be well. As Jaxon’s adoption is completed and finalized I ask for continued favor for Darren and Shawn meet with the baby house and the Russian court system, so that each interaction and all paperwork is completed and processed without delay. I ask for strength and courage for Darren and Shawn so that they feel confident and know everything is right and good. When Jaxon is in transition with Darren and Shawn at their hotel make this a time where they truly connect and become a family. Let them establish their routines together, allow them to become one and seamless. Father, I pray against attacks against this family, don’t let anything stop or interfere their new beginning together. Lord, it is so hard to find peace in the middle of chaos, please bring peace to this family, and please bring love to this family. Thank you for each time you have interceded in this adoption, thank you that you love us. Amen.
